Your CALive Questions Answered

questions & answers/CALive/Starting your Concierge Business/Growing a Concierge Business/Build a Personal Concierge Business/www.theconcieregeacademy.com

I am so freakin’ excited!! Last week I told you that the doors to CALive were OPEN and we already have sold over a 1/3rd of our seats!!

EEEE!!!

One of the amazing things that happens at CALive is getting your questions answered!! The reality is when you’re building a business, there are always so many questions that pop up. From business models, to keeping your FT job, to expanding your team, insurance and payroll!!

I personally had no idea all of the things I would need to do or learn. LOL! But lucky for you, you have ME! ?

So today’s weekly assignment is more Q+A style. I hope you enjoy it!

So what I would do if I were you, is print this out so you have it!!

Q – I’m just starting in this business. Is accounting software something I need to have right off the bat?

A – No – many people just starting out use an excel spreadsheet. But once you DO get started – I highly recommend QuickBooks. It has been around forever and is a solid product that is NOT difficult to use. I’ve tried a few of the other more App style bookkeeping services, but at the end of the year when your tax accountant needs a complete breakdown, QB is much more comprehensive. It also allows you to track your more profitable services. Things that become very important as your business grows. P+L statements can be VERY sexy. ?

Q – How do we keep track of things for bookkeeping purposes?

A – Even if you have ZERO clients and are investing in your first 500 business cards, PLEASE do yourself a favor and get a secondary CC that you use EXCLUSIVELY for business startup costs and purchases. You never want to mix personal expenses with business expenses. Start off this way and you’ll never have to go backwards. You should also open a separate bank acct. Whether you’re acting as a Sole Proprietor or have an established Federal EIN, keep business monies completely separate from personal monies. This will keep you clean and legit for tax time.

Q – Can you recommend a good mileage tracking app?

A – I have done everything here from tracking on paper (in a time log/mileage book) to an app called MileIQ. Tracking mileage becomes an important number and tax deduction for the IRS at tax time. There is also a newer App out called QuickBooks “self-employed”. This is the platform we are currently considering switching to in 2018. The belief and understanding is that there is a fairly seamless transition of information INTO your QBooks.

Q – Do you thank someone for a referral?

A – Absolutely hands down yes!! You should always have a personalized message of thanks sent out to each and every referral. Most people LOVE giving referrals – but they also secretly like to be acknowledged too. It’s a simple way of YOU showing your appreciation for THAT person for taking the time and effort to pass on a relationship/connection/referral to you – whether that person becomes a client or not.

Hopefully, this Q+A segment was a great little informative session for you!

As you continue to grow and expand your client base, more complicated questions will arise such as logistics, handling a bad client experience, how to send a client contract, should you use a contract, how to welcome a new client … and so, so many more things. That’s the beauty and excitement of building a business from the ground up. All those things you’ll learn along the way. ?
