She kept this list on her desk for YEARS ( and how you can too )

When I first started my concierge business, I had no idea what I was doing. Y’all know the story by now…

I had NO CLUE on how to build a business. I knew nothing. Zilch. Nada. When people told me to “go networking,” – I literally “googled” – “how to network.” Yep, that was this girl right here!! But alas I DID start my concierge business.

Obviously, I did all the things everyone else does too. I scoured the internet. I stalked other peoples’ websites. And I spent hours and hours and hours (over a few months) reading every article, book and resource I could get my hands on. I did most of the “research” while I was still working my FT gig as a Registered Nurse at a VERY busy inner-city hospital.

Most of the information I found about “how to start a concierge business” was mostly really “generic” information.

Other stuff I found – I literally devoured!! But then I realized that everything in these books told me how to “start files” and “get insurance” and decide whether I wanted to be an LLC or an S-Corp ( I actually opted to start as a Sole Proprietor until I was certain I would be a viable business). Still, none of these resources really told me in an experiential way HOW to market, or where to even begin.

Today I want to share a few pointers with you if you’re cool with that? THEN I want to be sure you’ve grabbed Our Freebie that has helped thousands of people to date …

Ok well, if you want to grab it first – you can do that here – https://theconciergeacademy.com/111ways

So, a few pointers for starting your very own concierge business. OH, and if you’ve been in business a while, it’s always a good time to go back and hit the basics again too!

  1. Stop trying to be “I do everything for everybody”
Instead, get CLEAR on WHO you want to work with
  2. Figure out WHAT you even want to do
There was that time many years ago when I said yes to cleaning up someone’s Excel spreadsheet. There were upwards of 11K discombobulated names, addresses and phone numbers in all the wrong fields, etc. (Kelly does NOT do tech)
  3. Join a local networking group (I LOOOVE being part of the Chamber for so many reasons)
But learn the right way to network, be sure to build relationships and learn what Nurture Marketing is ( It’s my signature system )
  4. Always, always, always be “ready”
Being ready means, never leave home with business cards ( like I did that time a super successful business coach asked me for my business card because he needed help and I didn’t have any with me – Then I lovingly stalked him on Twitter for months until I ended up getting a personal introduction – we DID eventually work together, but many that would have been so much easier had I NOT left the house without business cards )
  5. Carve out the TIME
Here’s the deal. So many people start their own business, only to fail. (sorry – truth bomb)
Why do they fail? Because they don’t stay COMMITTED to the time or work, they need to invest in getting clients and building a stable, solid business. Be sure you are the MASTER of your calendar, and you are putting in several hours a DAY to marketing and getting the word out about your services.
