Do you get all nostalgic when those “4 years ago today” Facebook memories pop up?
I do! I loooove seeing my kids when they were little. Just the other day, one popped up from when my son—who’s now 20!—got his driver’s license. FOUR years ago. How?!
And naturally, because I’m me, this got me thinking about business (yup, even a driver’s license can be a biz lesson)…
What the Past Can Teach Us in Business
Sometimes, you hit a lull in your Concierge Business. One minute, you’re swamped. The next? It’s like the phones stopped ringing, emails dried up, and you’re wondering if you accidentally turned your business “off.”
It happens. To all of us.
Here’s the thing: whenever you feel stuck, like “I don’t have enough clients,” or “Where did everyone go?”—you need to do one thing first…
Look Back to Move Forward
Look at your business like your Facebook memories.
What were you doing this time last year? Two years ago?
Did you experience a slowdown then, too? And if you did, what did you do to move through it? Did your marketing stop? Were you focused on “busy work”? Did you lose momentum because life got… lifey?
When we feel lost or unsure, we need to stop spinning in the now and start reflecting on what already worked.
This idea ties closely to a post I wrote about “busy work vs financial productivity.” Are you keeping yourself busy without actually moving the business forward? This is where a look in the rearview mirror can help.
The Power of a Personal “Business Time Hop”
Open up your calendar, your journals, your project list. What was going on 6 months ago? A year ago?
Were you reaching out to your network more consistently?
Were you promoting a specific package or offering?
Were you showing up differently online or in person?
So often, when business slows down, it’s not because of a lack of clients—it’s because we stopped doing the things that helped us get clients in the first place.
Been There, Done That—Do It Again
When you notice a dip in business, it’s easy to panic and think, “I need to do something NEW.” But often, what you need to do is something familiar.
Revisit old strategies that worked. Refine them. Repeat them. Reconnect with people who once showed interest but didn’t commit. Follow up. Reach out. Reignite.
This is why I often remind my students to lean into their niche. I talk more about this in “Thriving in Your Concierge Business With a Clear Niche“ Your past success can often be traced back to when your message, services, and marketing were most aligned with your ideal client.
How We Manage Slowdowns in Our Concierge Business
Inside our Concierge Business, slowdowns are just signals. They’re like those Facebook memory pings—it’s time to pay attention.
Here’s how we approach it:
Track what we did before. (Emails sent, calls made, packages offered)
Review what worked. (What months were strongest? What offers sold best?)
Repeat successful strategies. (YES. Even if it feels “old.”)
Focus on our time and pricing. Because if your time isn’t valued, your business suffers. Read more about that here.
Slow periods don’t mean your business is broken. It just means it needs attention. Like a garden you forgot to water.
Reminder: You’ve Done Hard Things Before
Don’t let a dry spell trick you into thinking you’re starting over. You’ve built something amazing. And the proof is right there—in your past wins, lessons, and progress.
Whether you’re running a personal concierge business or are deep in the world of concierge services for the elderly, one thing remains true:
Your past is packed with clues that can lead to your next big breakthrough.
Go back. Reflect. Rethink. And then re-ignite the same spark that got you started.
Your Next Step
If you’re in that place of “I need more clients,” you’re not alone. And you’re not stuck.
Take one action today based on something that worked before.
Send a follow-up message.
Re-promote an old offer.
Revisit your niche and messaging.
