Why You Need a Professional Headshot

Kelly at table/planning new year business goals
Last week, I was in the process of recording a series of NEW training videos for my course, Fully Booked: A Marketing Roadmap for Offline Businesses in an Online world

Fully Booked is for people who are just getting started with their business, are trying to move forward but not “seeing” the results they want and may also be feeling confused by what direction they need to take and what they need to do to get more clients…

Ok – so anyway…

As part of the Fully Booked Program, I also created a series of BONUS trainings that focus on the “first steps” for a successful business set up– like website, domain names, email provider, banking, business cards, ideal clients (and more) that have to do with creating a STRONG foundation – and ONE of those trainings is about having a professional headshot!

So, today I want to give you 5 REASONS WHY you need a professional headshot!
  1. Your headshot is meant to exude professionalism.

Whether you realize it or not, PEOPLE are looking and watching! Your “headshot” is a direct and immediate expression of your business.

I know, it sounds a bit much, right? But here’s the thing. When you are in a local service-based business, especially if you do organizing or concierge work you want people to CONNECT YOU (and your image) to “professionalism”.

  2. Stand out from the crowd.

Having a headshot is more than just about YOU – it’s about others “seeing” you. And to be honest, if there’s YOU and a local competitor- if their headshot is a fuzzy old pic with beat-up Camaro in the background, and then there’s YOU and your FANNNNCy self – looking swanky and all professional like – WHO would YOU choose?

  3. Stay top of mind.

An “image” that pulls people in is an easy and FREE way to keep in touch with folks. When you “play the part” people WILL remember you! Just do me a solid and don’t do one of those laying across the floor leaning on your folded hands thing, ok?? I know, maybe I’m being a little judgy here – but I can NOT take a woman (and certainly not a man) seriously when they’re laying out on a rug doing a 2001 Picture People pose. If you don’t remember Picture People – go google it for shits and giggles
    ?

  4. Builds Know – Like and Trust

A good headshot gives people an idea of your personality before they meet you. It’s the THING that breaks down barriers…

A smile portrays approachability. A serious look portrays determination or I’m gonna get this shit done. Make your expression match your personality. Just do yourself a favor and make sure your headshot is up to date! When people SEE your headshot online– they are LOOKING and EXPECTING to see YOU! Not 1975 you!

I’ll never forget when I set up a “coffee date” with a local realtor years back. I grabbed his business card at a local event and some other local networking peeps told me “You need to connect with Tom!” So I did! I went to his website – scoped him out, sent an email, and offered to take him to coffee.

As I sat there in the local Starbucks, I was expecting to see an established late 40-year-old gentleman with brown hair …

Who walked in – a grey-haired man in his mid-sixties who shared with me that he was likely slowing down to retire over the next 5 years. I was COMPLETELY caught off guard!

When you ARRIVE at your client’s home – let them know WHO to expect at the front door
    ?

  5. You get to feel all Fannnnccyyyy!! What I really mean is CONFIDENT!

A good professional headshot is like investing in a FABULOUS little black dress, or an amazing suit and pair of Italian Loafers. Having a quality headshot of yourself to share with your professional peers boosts your self-confidence, and it can even inspire you to share more of yourself with others, take a few risks, and overcome challenges. I double-dog dare yah XO

Professional headshots aren’t just for executives, movie stars, and realtors anymore. Everybody needs one. If you don’t have one already, I encourage you to seek out a skilled headshot photographer and check it off your “to-do” list.

When you hire the “right” photographer, your professionalism and unique personality will shine through, opening the doors to new opportunities and new business $$$

So, my friend!!

Are you ready to ditch the pic of you HIDING behind fluffy the 16 lb. cat?? Or give us a chance to see ALL Of us and not just the one side of your face??

I can’t WAIT to see what you all create as you step into your OWN professionalism and personality!!
