How Much Does It Cost to Start a Concierge Business

These 3 Things Have the BIGGEST Return on Investment

When I first started my concierge business, I had no clue where to spend the little bit of start-up cash I had.

I started with $2,000. And it went fast.

Website.
Insurance.
Business cards.
Rack cards.
My custom domain name.

And guess what?
None of that brought me my first paying client.

(Although  YES  insurance is absolutely a must for any business owner. No skipping that.)

Looking back now, I can clearly see what DID bring me clients and growth. And today, I want to help you fast-forward by sharing the top 3 investments with the biggest return  the ones that helped me build a profitable senior concierge business from the ground up.

But first, let’s clear something up…

What’s the difference between an expense and an investment?

An expense drains your resources.

An investment repays you  often with more money, more time, or more freedom.

Here’s a super simple example:

  • A daily Starbucks coffee = expense

  • Buying a Nespresso = investment

Investments don’t always feel like wins in the moment. We get so focused on immediate returns that we forget what’s possible in the long game. Real investments often pay off on the back end.

Let’s get into the ones that moved the needle in my business.

The Top 3 Investments That Changed Everything

1. People & Relationships

Your network really is your net worth.

Your business success depends on the relationships you build  with your community, clients, referral partners, and yes, even competitors.

Referrals are gold in this business. Word-of-mouth builds trust before people even meet you. And you don’t need a huge list or audience to start  just the right conversations with the right people.

I wrote about this more in Want More Referrals? Here’s How  it walks you through simple actions to boost referrals organically and consistently.

Bottom line: If you’re not building relationships, you’re missing the most profitable growth strategy available.

2. Systems That Save Time + Money

Let’s be real. Without systems, you’re reinventing the wheel every day. That’s a guaranteed path to burnout.

Systems don’t have to be fancy or high-tech. A “system” can be as simple as:

  • Using leftovers every Thursday for dinner

  • Planning out your weekly errands in advance

  • Using an automated calendar to book clients

In my blog Best Tools for Better Business Planning, I share the exact tools that helped me go from chaos to clarity. These tools don’t just save time  they help you grow your business with intention.

Systems give you freedom. They let you delegate, repeat success, and show up professionally every time.

3. Knowledge & Shortcuts

Trying to figure it all out yourself?

Stop. That’s not saving you money. It’s costing you time, energy, and progress.

One of the smartest things I did was invest in mentorship, courses, and coaching that helped me shortcut the trial and error. Growth happens faster when you can learn from people who’ve already done it.

It’s why I created The Concierge Academy in the first place  to help others avoid wasting months (or years) trying to do it alone.

This idea is echoed in my blog From Busy Work to Financial Productivity  where I break down how doing “more” isn’t always better, especially if it’s not moving you forward.

And as Tony Robbins says:

“Whatever you want in life, someone has already figured it out. Model the best.”

The right knowledge lets you implement faster, make decisions faster, and pivot faster  which all leads to success, faster.

Let’s Recap…

If you want to know how to start a profitable senior concierge business, these are the three places I’d put my energy and money every time:

  1. People & relationships – because clients and referrals don’t come from flyers, they come from humans.

  2. Systems – because they give you time, freedom, and consistency.

  3. Knowledge & shortcuts – because trying to DIY your way to success will cost you more than you think.

Bonus Tip: Invest in You

YOU are the most important asset in your business.

When you grow, your business grows.
When you expand your thinking, your possibilities expand.
When you believe you can create a profitable business helping seniors, you will.

You don’t need to be everywhere. You just need to be consistent, intentional, and focused on the right investments.
