How I Plan Business Goals Without Copying Others

Let’s be real planning for your business isn’t just about dreaming big. It’s about dreaming smart and true to you. A couple of weeks ago, I ran away to my beach house. Two full days of cozy blankets, candles, spa music, markers, flip charts, and journals. Yes, plural. I’m extra like that.

And no, this wasn’t some vague “let’s set goals” session. I take this process seriously.

So today I want to share how I map out my year (2025 in this case), and the #1 thing NOT to do when you’re planning your business goals especially if you’re launching or growing a senior concierge business.

The Biggest Planning Mistake I Ever Made

A few years ago, I was in a mastermind. I loved it. Great people. Creative minds. But during one planning session, I made a huge mistake:

I started looking around the room at what everyone else was doing.
Their launches.
Their retreats.
Their team-building plans.

And without even realizing it… I started molding my goals to look like theirs.

I used their highlight reels to shape my vision and it nearly derailed me.

I see this happen all the time in the senior concierge space. New entrepreneurs look at others and say, “Oh, I guess I should offer that too.” But if it doesn’t align with your life or goals, it won’t stick.

Real Talk from Real Students

Let me give you a real example:

Five years ago, Stephanie came to work with me. She had no business just a name! But in two years? She was working full-time in her business. She nailed her marketing, pricing, and used her network like a boss.

Another student in that same group also grew quickly so quickly she left her part-time job to manage her clients full-time. Both were rocking it.

But Stephanie made the mistake of assuming she wanted a team, just like her peer. So she started “planning” to expand. Yet deep down, she really wanted a schedule that gave her one weekday off to hang with her grandson.

She spent an entire year chasing a vision that wasn’t even hers.

So What’s the Moral Here?

Don’t plan your business around what others are doing.
Don’t “should” yourself to death.
Set goals that make sense for YOU your values, your life, your energy.

Want to build a profitable senior concierge business that also gives you freedom? Then let your goals reflect that.

How I Planned for 2025

I kicked off my planning weekend by envisioning what 2025 would look like for:

But most importantly? I planned for my life. My family. My marriage. Because honestly if those areas fall apart, what’s the point?

Lessons from 2024 That Shaped My 2025 Goals

I always reflect on the past year before I plan the new one. Here are the biggest truths that shaped me (and might help you too):

  • My fears always show up when I grow and that’s OK.

  • Don’t share your big dreams with small minds.

  • Authenticity attracts amazing clients.

  • Your thoughts literally shape your results.

  • If I don’t schedule free time, I default to work.

  • I still struggle to acknowledge my own wins.

  • The more aligned my marketing is with my spirituality, the more magic happens.

  • I need support to grow. Period.

  • I LOVE deep connection time with my husband.

  • I need movement Zumba, dance, walks to stay sane.

  • If I don’t plan for it, it doesn’t happen.

This list may sound familiar. Or not. Because your lessons will look different. And that’s the beauty of it. We’re all walking our own road.

From Lessons to Action

So what did I do with those lessons?

I used them to shape goals that aligned with what I actually wanted. Not what I saw on Instagram. Not what a coach said I “should” do.

I aligned my vision with my lifestyle which is the ONLY way your business goals become sustainable and real.

And friend, whether you’re just starting your senior concierge business, or looking to scale it big this year, your first step is getting radically honest about what you want.
